The Wilson Area High School Band received the Arlen R. Saylor Award for the outstanding marching band at the 40th Cavalcade of Bands competition recently at Boyertown High School. The Arlen R. Saylor Award is a traveling trophy awarded to the school that received the highest score.

The Warrior Band also received outstanding ratings in: inspection, music, marching and general effects with an overall rating of outstanding. They also earned a section award for the best brass sections. The band competed against eight other bands including Great Valley, Exeter, Boone, Tamaqua, William Tennent, Neshaminy and Pottsville.

The Wilson Area High School band recently performed in the First Flag Over the United Colonies Band Festival on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Cottingham Stadium. The Warrior Band received superior ratings in: music, marching, general effects, and overall rating. In addition to superior ratings they received trophies for outstanding band front, drum major(ette), music and general effects.

The band performed against nine other high school bands including Dieruff, Northampton, Southern Lehigh, William Allen, Stroudsburg, Phillipsburg and Bangor.

At the Boyertown and Easton Band Competition, the bandfront won Best Bandfront. In addition, the band won Best Music at Easton.


During the 2000/2001 season, the band performed two field shows. The first show was a combination of patriotic songs and was designed to entertain fans at the football games. The second show was performed for competitions and included the following arrangements: Prologue (Canticle of the Creatures), Brother Fire, Mother Earth, Brother Sun.


On December 30, 2000 the band had planned on embarking on a trip to Miami, Florida. However, a snowstorm came through the area and their flight was cancelled. More than 100 band members and 15 adults spent the night in Newark International Airport. The band was able to take off the following morning. They performed on January 4, 2021 during the halftime show of the NCAA National Championship Orange Bowl. Prior to the trip, the band had to raise $150,000.
