This was a big year for WHS Marching Band. It is the first year that they have only a Student Director. It was also the first year that Drum Majorettes are introduced. While there were only two drum majorettes, it was the beginning of what we know as the Wilson Baton Twirlers/Majorettes. In addition, the band also added a Flag Bearer.

There were 59 members. Once again, the band raised money at the Spring Concert to purchase new uniforms for the following year.

FUN FACT: It is worth recognizing the first two Drum Majorettes of WHS, Marilyn Allf and Jean McMakin.

During this year, a third Drum Majorette was added. In addition, a full Color Guard (what we would now call Honor Guard) was added. The band wore new uniforms this year. The Drum Majorettes wore all white and hats with a plume.

The band had 64 members. The band received the first prize in the American Legion Armistice Parade for four consecutive years.

FUN FACT: Robert Streepy, Student Director, was voted Most Musical of the Senior class.
